About Student Council

The Student Council is the link between the administration and student body. It consists of four student council officers: president, vice president, treasurer, and secretary. Also, there's a representative of each class, and a representative of all active organizations at school such as the band, yearbook, cheerleading, teens for life, NHS, etc. The main purpose of this group is to create activities for unification of the student body and administration, to plan activities and projects to help improve the school and to be leaders of the school.

Student Council Constitution

Article I: Name and Purpose

Section 1--Link between student body and administration.

Section 2--Purpose is to create activities for unification of the student body and administration, to plan activities and projects to help improve the school and to be leaders of the school.

Article II: Membership

Section 1--The president should always be a senior. The vice-president should always be a junior or a senior. The secretary and treasurer should be a junior or a senior.

Section 2--The student council will consist of the student council officers, a class representative of each class, and a representative of all active organizations in the school, band, and yearbook. The head cheerleaders from each of the two squads are also council members.

Article III: Election of Officers

Section 1--Elections well be held in the spring prior to all other elections.

Section 2--Intentions to be a candidate for an office should be made by contacting the Student Council Faculty Advisor.

Section 3--A candidate for office may campaign for the office one week prior to elections.

Section 4--The process of elections will be left up to the council yearly.

Article IV: Officers

Section 1--The president is to conduct the meetings.

Section 2--The vice-president is to preside in the absence of the president and take on his/her duties.

Section 3--The secretary/moderator shall keep the minutes of the meetings, a record of all business, and all records on file. The treasurer and sponsor shall receive and disburse all funds of the council and keep an accurate account of receipts and disbursements in accordance with school regulations. He/She shall post a sign on the bulletin board announcing student council meetings and post the minutes on the bulletin board after the meeting.

Section 4--All officers should display the qualities of a leader in the school and at school functions and display good citizenship at all times.

Section 5--An officer must maintain a "C" average in all academic and religion courses.

Section 6--Any violation of the above will be terms for dismissal.

Article V: Executive Committee

Section 1--The Executive Committee shall consist of the three elected officers and the 4 class representatives.

Section 2--The Executive Student Council Committee are expected to voice their opinions on ideas involving the school functions, projects, and solutions to problems that derive.

Section 3--All members of the Executive Committee should display the qualities of a good leader and display good citizenship at all times.

Section 4--Any violation of the above will be terms for dismissal.

Article VI: Meetings

Section 1--The meetings will be called to order by the president.

Section 2--The minutes of the last meeting, all other business, and the treasury report will be read by the secretary-treasurer.

Section 3--All members of the Student Council and the Executive Committee are to come to all meetings and participate in the discussions. Each member will be allowed two unexcused absences during the school year from a regular meeting. An absence can be excused only if it is because of illness, family funeral, or if the member is attending a scheduled school function. A third unexcused absence will result in dismissal from the council membership, and a replacement will be selected.

Section 4--A voting process should take place when in question of projects and problems.

Article VII

This constitution can be revised at any unanimous majorities vote.

Article VIII

A moderator of the Student Council will be chosen by the administration. All actions taken by the council should go through their sponsor.

What To Do

There are many things to do this year for the student council. The sophomores are busy trying to raise money for prom next year. When asked about his thoughts on raising money and working on the student council, Jimmy O. said, "I'm just living the dream. I think it's a worthwhile experience working at the school."
