Youth Congress is a drug-free group of Middle and High Schoolers who help the administration make important decisions. They meet with the Administration each month to discuss key issues with school. It may seem like they don't do anything, but in reality, there is alot being done to make school a better place. For example, I bet you didn't know that Youth Congress started the movement to wear tennis shoes instead of dress shoes. Or how about the fact that they distributed the lunch survey?
We are also working in coalition the Mayor's Youth Council to try to find something to do for fun in Hastings. We are focusing on the ongoing drinking problem in our school, as well as the two other schools. In addition, they meet with student council representatives to improve the learning environment. If you have a problem, then they are the ones to see.
We hosted a "winter fun day" for the middle schoolers over Christmas break. They took part in sledding, and indoor games with hot chocolate and pizza. Also, in the past, we have sponsored a lock-in at what was Champions. We would like to do another one, but our group is so small that sufficient supervision would not be available.
All you have to do is come to a meeting, and sign the drug-free pledge (yes, Alcohol is a drug).
