Strength Training

2006-2007

Weights and Agilities is something that has changed high school sports all over the country. The Athletes are faster, quicker, and stronger which makes for a better player. St. Cecilia has had much success in all fields of sports due to the time spent in the weight room. Whether it's on the volleyball court, football field, or the basketball court weights and agilities plays a huge role. We will only continue are success if the athletes dedicate themselves to the weight room not only in the offseason but during the season too. Guys aren't the only ones who need to strength train, it is key in the girls sports too. We need to continue our success and dedicate ourselves to the weight room this year, as well as in years to come. As Benjamin Franklin famously stated "By failing to prepare you are preparing to fail".

St. Cecilia's weight room has equipment that helps all types of muscles. The core lifts include 8 bench presses, 4 squat racks, and 4 hang clean platforms. There is also a jammer, 2 leg presses, and cybex leg machine. The small weight room has your dumbbells, as well as other smaller lifts. We are in the process of purchasing a vertimax which improves vertical leaps. The weight room is open to Guys and Girls grades 6-12.

Agilities helps athletes improve their lateral speed, quickness, and jumping. In this day and age all of these factors are important in sports. You will work with cones, bags, floor ladders, and boxes doing drills to improve speed, quickness, and jumping. The coaches that will be in charge of these agility sessions will vary but will include Coach Tesmer, Coach Ahrens, and Coach Luther. These agility sessions are for Guys and Girls grades 6-12.
