Up to date information that connects curriculum to the real world is very important. Up to date career information supports and enhances the entire career development. When looking for career information in Nebraska it is important that the information aligns with NCE Career Fields/Clusters Model. A web based career information system has a big advantage of current resources, the capacity to store electronic Personal learning Plans, 24 hour availability to students, parents, and educators.
Individual Student Planning (Personal Learning Plans in Nebraska) involves regularly reviewing plans through out your high school years to ensure that students are reaching their education and career goals. School counseling programs coordinate Personal Learning Plans.
Career Assessments help students find out their interests, their skills, and their values. By looking at these areas the assessments identify the students highest career clusters. Career Clusters help students identify jobs that best suit them.
Mrs. Theriault teaches eighth and sophomore Career Exploration classes at STC. At the eighth Grade level, students identify their top three Career Fields and explore several job choices. At the sophomore level students review these career fields, identify possible jobs, and then do a job shadow in one of these career fields.
The Early Entry program at Central Community College (CCC) provides an opportunity
for currently enrolled high school students who have attained junior-level status
and are at least 16 years old to enroll in college credit courses. Students
have 3 options while enrolled as an Early Entry student.
1) Students may take a CCC lecture course on the CCC campus
2) Students may take a Web Course through CCC.
3) Students may take an individualized CCC course through the use of books,
study packets, videotapes, CDs and other technology at the STC Learning Center.
The STC Learning Center allows students to take a college course while in the
St. Cecilia High School building during students’ halls. The Learning
center manager, Mrs. Adrian, provides any needed assistance and serves as a
contact with the Central Community College faculty.
